The training situation of candidates in higher vocational education and training

Higher vocational education and training, together with the higher education institutions, forms the tertiary level of the Swiss education system. It enables professionals with a federal certificate of competence or an equivalent degree in upper secondary education to specialise and deepen their expertise. Under the higher vocational training, the federal examinations (professional examination, higher technical examination) and the higher technical schools are summarised. For the first time in 2021, people who sought to complete higher vocational education and training in 2020 were interviewed by the SFS for the first time on their training. This publication contains the first results of the 2021 survey of candidates in higher vocational education and training. The focus is on socio-demographic composition, questions about training and the subjective assessments of the candidates, as well as the costs and financing of the training. In order to take into account the range of training, statistics are broken down according to the International Standard Classification of Education (ISCED).
