资源简介:
This collection comprises site data (digital photographs, spreadsheets, specialist reports, scanned trench and context sheets, registers and drawings) from a programme of archaeological mitigation in the form archaeological recording undertaken by Archaeology Wales and Wardell Armstrong LLP on land at Newyears Green Lane, Ruislip in the London Borough of Hillingdon. Work was undertaken between 17th August 2020 and 16th December 2020 ahead of construction works associated with High Speed 2. The evidence from Newyears green represents at least five phases of activity on the site, relating to the Late Bronze Age, Romano-British, medieval, post medieval, and modern periods. In particular groups of features relating to the Late Bronze Age, Romano British and medieval periods are likely to relate to archaeology within the wider vicinity of the site. These investigations have gone some way to addressing five key local and regional considerations including: " The overall paucity of archaeological evidence from the North Middlesex/Hertfordshire and London clay lands and their landscape context. " Develop a greater understanding of the chronology, form and function of both the dispersed Prehistoric and medieval activity - including connection to the nearby woodland, common and the formation of the Hospitaller manor. " Determine the longevity of the historic boundary of Bayhurst Wood and if and how premedieval features appear to respect or even reflect it. " Investigate the route of the former holloway, which now forms Public Bridleway U42 and its extension into Newyears Green and Bayhurst wood beyond. This feature has already been identified in the south eastern confines of the field known as Newyears Green A. " Establish the plausibility of determining the origin of Bayhurst Wood and if indeed it comprises a remnant of Oliver Rackham's Wildwood. Furthermore, determine whether the origins of this woodland reach as far back as the end of the last Ice Age c. 10ka BP. However, due to the nature of the evidence excavated from Newyears Green, in particular the evidence of industrial activity during the medieval period, a programme of further work is recommended. It is understood this that this programme will be suggested at a later date. The dataset should be considered together with the dataset from 1S19NYGTT Newyears Green Trial Trenching.
