Hermatypic corals of the Philippines

An annotated checklist of the hermatypic corals of the Philippines was produced using a combination of field studies and re-evaluations of major taxonomic collections in Philippines Universities.Field work was carried out in 1986 and 1988 at five primary study sites; Bolinao, Luzon Island; Puerto Galera, Mindoro Island; El Nido (Bacuit Bay), Palawan Island; Mactan Island and Danajon Bank, off Cebu Island; and Apo Island, off Negros Island. Reference collections made as part of this study were deposited at the Bolinao Marine Station and the Marine Science Institute, University of the Philippines. Additional specimens were sent to the Australian Institute of Marine Science for further study. The purpose of this study was to produce a comprehensive checklist of the hermatypic corals of the Philippines, which would provide a basis for comparisons between the hermatypic corals of the Philippines and those of other Indo-Pacific regions.

本研究结合野外调查与菲律宾高校馆藏主要分类学标本的重新鉴定，编制了菲律宾造礁石珊瑚（hermatypic corals）带注释名录。野外调查分别于1986年和1988年在5处核心研究站点开展，涵盖吕宋岛博利瑙、民都洛岛波多加拉雷、巴拉望岛埃尔尼多（巴奎特湾）、宿务岛周边的麦克坦岛与达纳翁滩，以及内格罗斯岛周边的阿波岛。本研究采集的参考标本分别存放于菲律宾大学博利瑙海洋站与海洋科学研究所，其余标本则寄送澳大利亚海洋科学研究所开展进一步研究。本研究旨在编制菲律宾造礁石珊瑚的全面带注释名录，为菲律宾与其他印度洋-太平洋区域的造礁石珊瑚类群开展对比研究提供基础依据。
