We analyzed thousand B73xA188 F2 callus tissues generated from immature embryos of ears of self-pollinated B73xA188 F1 plants, collected distinct Type I and Type II calli for the genetic mapping and transcriptomic profiling. We also performed transcriptomic analysis of tissue samples collected from fast- and slow-growing callus sections of A188. Integration of genetic and transcriptomic data identified candidate DEGs that might be involved in callus development, providing genetic information for further studies of callus embryogenesis in maize.
