Heavy metals contaminated in soils at paddy fields threaten crop products, whereby additional methane emission leads to double environmental concerns. Leveraging the heavy metal-tolerant aerobic methanotrophs that play a crucial role in methane oxidation and biogeochemical cycling could tackle methane mitigation and heavy metal contamination. However, their ability to tolerate heavy metals such as cadmium (Cd) remains poorly understood. This metal-tolerant aerobic methanotroph genome provides genomic knowledge to elucidate their metal resistance mechanisms and potential applications in bioremediation. This study aims to leverage metal-tolerant aerobic methanotrophs for methane mitigation strategies and bioremediation applications for metal-contaminated environments.
