Oregon coast ash samples from marine animals

Abstract: Oregon State University has a collection of almost 3000 ashed samples of marine organisms available for research, including more than 250 species of species of animals from the ocean off Oregon and Washington from both pelagic waters from surface to depths of 2000m, and benthic animals from the coast to abyssal depths. This dataset contains sample information, weights, and radioanalysis data of these ashed samples. All samples of animals were dried to a constant weight at 65 C, ashed at 450 C for 72 hr, ground and packed into 13 cc counting tubes for gamma ray counting. Total weight of these elements were sometimes determined by atomic absorption spectroscopy. This research was supported by the Atomic Energy Agency, the U.S. Department of Energy, and Sea Grant.
