Question: To what extent is the power base of the chief executive determined by direct election? Clarification: Representing one of five regime dimensions, each of which may be more or less present in any given case, this index taps into the extent to which the chief executive is appointed through direct popular election (regardless of the quality or extension of suffrage of that election). Scale: Interval, from low to high (0-1).
