We used a metabarcoding approach to characterize the prokaryotic and eukaryotic communities colonizing two adjacent nymphaea in the archaeological park of Baia (Phlegraean Fields, Campania region, Italy). We sampled 17 biofilms different by colour, consistency, and colonized substratum and carried out a metabarcoding analysis using the V3-V4 hypervariable region of the 16S rRNA gene for the characterisation of bacteria and the V4 region of the 18S rRNA gene for eukaryotes.
