Rapid multilocus adaptation of clonal cabbage leaf curl virus populations to Arabidopsis thaliana

This study used cabbage leaf curl virus as a model for rapid plant virus evolution. We inoculated plants with infectious clones wild-type or mutagenized versions of the CabLCV genome. We detected high-frequency spontaneous mutations at a coat protein position and a DNA-B iteron, on top of the background of mutagenized positions reverting to restore Rep protein function.
