In this project, we determined whole-genomic sequences for Hokkaido brown bears. Three different mtDNA lineages (clades 4, 3a2, and 3b) appear to have migrated from the Eurasian Continent to Hokkaido, Japan and become allopatrically distributed in Southern, Central, and Eastern Hokkaido, respectively. Our project utilized muscle tissue samples from six Hokkaido brown bears (one individual per sex per mtDNA lineage).
