The aim of this project is the synthesis and investigation of novel polyoxides of alkali metals under
high pressure. In particular, we aim to synthesize Li, Na and K compounds featuring polyoxide anions
including unconventional compounds with non-integer formal charges on the polyoxygen anions. Our
proposal is based on recent theoretical predictions, the discovery of pressure-stabilized ozonides in
the Ca-O system, and our own preliminary studies of the Na-O system.
