Study on the gut microbial diversity in BPH

We determined and compared the bacterial community structures in two BPH populations, an avirulent population feeding on a susceptible rice variety (TN1) and a virulent population rearing on a resistance rice variety (ASD7), using high-throughput amplicon sequencing. We predict that gut bacterial composition hosted by BPH will vary among different virulence populations, since microbiota harboring in insect can regulate its host plant adaptations, or the host-plant itself can have a major effect on insect's microbial community structure.
