VPRS 7960 Court of Petty Sessions, Fraud Registers

Series comprises the record of proceedings pertaining to enforcement of unpaid civil debts pursuant to the Imprisonment of Fraudulent Debtors Act 1958 as conducted by the Bendigo Court of Petty Sessions. Under the provisions of this act a person can be imprisoned by order of the court for the deliberate failure or neglect to settle a civil case after issue of a default judgement by the court compelling payment. Action is usually initiated upon receipt of application for enforcement by the unsatisfied party. Prior to the commencement of this series, detail pertaining to such action was entered in VPRS 7961 Court of Petty Sessions Registers. Detail pertaining to the issue of the original default order compelling payment is found from 1932 in VPRS 7962 Fraud Registers and in VPRS 7961 before that.
