A diolate-bridged Fe12 member of the “ferric wheel” class of molecular wheels has been obtained to complement the known MeO--bridged members such as the prototypical Fe10 wheel; reaction of these Fe10 and Fe12 ferric wheels with N-based chelates has given Fe4 and Fe12 molecular rectangles and squares, respectively.
