AKARI (Previously known as ASTRO-F or IRIS - InfraRed Imaging Surveyor) is the second space mission for infrared astronomy in Japan. AKARI was developed by the members of JAXA/ISAS and collaborators.
This is one of about a dozen relatively small surveys carried out to search for molecular clouds predicted by the infrared analysis of DHT2001 (shaded purple in Fig. 1; see Section 3.1.4).
