资源简介:
On the 29, 30, and 31 of January and l, 2, and 3 of February 1983, CZR, Incorporated, conducted an archaeological survey of a 485-acre site to be used for land application of treated waste water from the town of Ahoskie, North Carolina. The purpose of the survey was to assess cultural resources occurring on the site which may be impacted by the proposed expansion
An estimated 85 percent of the project area was actually examined during the survey. The survey methodology consisted of controlled surface survey techniques supplemented by sets of 25 cm square shovel tests. One prehistoric site was located by the survey, and one site was recorded as an historic archaeological site. Neither site is considered eligible for the National Register of Historic Places, and either warrants
further work. The historic background research of land records and published materials revealed that the area was used primarily in historic times only as agricultural and timberland. Several structures with associated out buildings were noted in the project area, and one ll grave family cemetery was located and recorded. Evaluation of structures was not included in the scope of work for this study.
