This experiment took place in York University's Saywell Woodlot on September 21st, 2015 at approximately 3:30pm with group member Anosha Rahmany. The temperature was 21˚C with sunny skies and low humidity. White pine adult trees and White pine saplings were the samples for this experiment. Data was collected by randomly selecting ten White pine adult trees (along a transect) and recording the following for each sample: DBH (ft), canopy coverage (percentage), distance to nearest sapling (ft), and DBH of the sapling (ft). Measurements for the DBH and distance to nearest sapling were obtained by using a transect measuring tape. The canopy coverage was recorded by holding up a square (using fingers) to the sky and estimating the percentage of sky visible in the square.
