Investigate the molecular basis of rice linked to low glycemic index trait to provide benefit in the management and prevention of chronic diseases including type II diabetes. The nucleotide variations identified in the approx. of 4.5 kb upstream of the promoter regions of GBSSI, SSIIa and SBEIIb genes might be helpful for the future researchers to identify markers for the introgression of genes linked to low GI into high GI rice cultivars.
