Tree production, efficiency and growth by cover crops effect (CLIMCOVER Project)

This dataset presents the comprehensive results of a two-year research initiative under the CLIMCOVER project, evaluating the transition from traditional bare soil to sustainable cover crop management in fruit orchards. It integrates detailed site metadata and environmental characterization with high-resolution physiological data, specifically quantifying midday stem water potential using Scholander pressure chambers and leaf-level gas exchange—including photosynthesis rate, transpiration and stomatal conductance via the LI-6800 system. The study monitors soil water content at depths of 30 cm and 100 cm using Sentek capacitive sensors, alongside vegetative growth (canopy volume, LAI, and trunk diameter) and fruit diameter to assess yield and water use efficiency. Furthermore, the data incorporates aerial multispectral indicators (RED, GREEN, BLUE, NIR, and REDGE mean values) and Area ME&TE derived from MicaSense drone sensors and satellite imagery (Sentinel-2, Landsat 8/9), establishing critical correlations between plant water status, biomass, and carbon sequestration.
