One lamp on the right shines red across the ocean's surface, while the lamp on the left shines a streak of green across the ocean's surface. Some green light is also seen reflecting on the water near the stern of the boat. To the right of the passengers, two life boats are seen hanging from the masts of the ship. The tops of three masts can beseen at the top of the ship. A small American flag is visible atop the frontal mast. Each mast supports five main sails along its body and several side sails. In the background to the left, a bright yellow sun sinkings into the clouds at the horizon. Clouds in the blue sky are streaked pink and dark red. In the foreground to the left, the water's surface reflecting the sun is colored bright yellow. Shades of purple are also seen in the ocean.
