This proposal uses a comprehensive and rational combination of multiple techniques, such as X-ray absorption near-edge structure (XANES) spectroscopy, extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) and X-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) spectroscopy, to study electronic and magnetic ground states of the new coordination compound produced by the reaction of high pressure ammonia (hp-NH3) with Li0.7[Cr(pyz)2]Cl0.7·0.25(THF) (pyz = pyrazine) . Ammonia molecules can diffuse into the layered structure and coordinate with Cr to form a new coordination compound with proposed formula [Cr(pyz)2(NH3)2]∙nNH3, dramatically altering its physical and chemical properties. Therefore, this proposal aims to shed light on structure-property relationships of the system through the mentioned techniques.
