2013年度～2022年度 日本のリサイクル率

2022年度、日本のごみ総排出量に対するリサイクル率は、2013年度の20.6パーセントから約19.6パーセントに減少しました。日本のごみ総排出量の大半を占めているのは、家庭排出ごみとなっています。 
廃棄物処理 
日本で収集されたごみ・廃棄物のほとんどは、焼却施設やリサイクル施設で処理されるか、埋め立て処分されています。都市ごみの焼却率は70％以上で、焼却は、廃棄物の量を簡単に減らすことができるため、最も広く利用されている処理方法となっています。日本では近年、都市ごみの埋立処分量が減少していますが、背景にはごみの最終処分場の空き容量が減っていることによる、埋め立て地不足があります。 
廃棄物のリサイクル 
日本では通常、廃棄物は回収される前に各家庭で分別され、分別の規則に従わない場合は回収されません。プラスチック、紙、ペットボトル、アルミ、ガラスは、リサイクル用に分別して回収されます。日本政府は2004年から、企業や市民が廃棄物の削減、再利用、リサイクルの重要性に注目するよう促す、いわゆる3R活動を推進しています。なお、プラスチックごみのリサイクル率は85パーセント以上にまで上昇しましたが、日本のごみ総排出量に対するリサイクル率は、先進国の中で最も低い水準にとどまっています。 

The recycling rate of the total waste discharge in Japan in 2022 decreased from 20.6 percent in 2013 to approximately 19.6 percent. The majority of Japan's total waste discharge is composed of household waste. Waste management in Japan involves the majority of collected waste and refuse being processed at incineration or recycling facilities, or disposed of in landfills. The incineration rate of urban waste exceeds 70 percent, making incineration the most widely used method of disposal due to its ability to easily reduce the volume of waste. In recent years, Japan has seen a decrease in the amount of urban waste landfilled, but this is due to a shortage of landfill sites caused by the decreasing capacity of final disposal sites. Waste recycling in Japan typically involves households sorting waste before collection, and waste that does not comply with sorting regulations is not collected. Plastic, paper, PET bottles, aluminum, and glass are separated for recycling collection. Since 2004, the Japanese government has promoted the 3R activities, urging businesses and citizens to pay attention to the importance of waste reduction, reuse, and recycling. However, despite the recycling rate of plastic waste exceeding 85 percent, Japan's recycling rate of total waste discharge remains one of the lowest among advanced countries.
