Tuscany hydrothermal springs show spectacular carbonate buildups (travertines). These buildups are colonized by pro- and eukaryotic microorganisms, mainly Chloroflexi, Cyanobacteria as well as diatoms and nematodes. Taxa within these groups change along a temperature gradient.
