Holroyd Plain Pest Management Program

This project will reduce the environmental impacts of feral animals (including feral pigs and horses) over a large area of the Holroyd Plain High Value Aquatic Ecosystem in central Cape York. Aerial and on-ground methods will be used, resulting in reduced erosion, sediment loads, vegetation disturbance, weed incursion and loss of ground cover and improved water quality, ground cover and soil carbon. The project will involve the Indigenous Land Council, Australian Wildlife Conservancy, and leasehold grazing properties to achieve landscape-scale conservation outcomes that are beyond the scope of individual properties and that complement an existing State-funded program covering an adjacent National Park area of 381,000 ha.

本项目旨在针对约克角半岛中部的霍德罗伊德平原高价值水生生态系统（Holroyd Plain High Value Aquatic Ecosystem）的大片区域，缓解野化动物（feral animals，含野猪与野化马）所造成的环境影响。项目将采用航空与地面作业手段，进而减少土壤侵蚀、泥沙负荷、植被干扰、杂草入侵及地表覆盖流失，并改善水质、地表覆盖状况与土壤碳储量。本项目将联动原住民土地委员会（Indigenous Land Council）、澳大利亚野生动物保护协会（Australian Wildlife Conservancy）以及租赁放牧牧场，以达成景观尺度的保护成效——此类成效远超单个牧场的覆盖范围，同时可作为现有覆盖38.1万公顷毗邻国家公园区域的州政府资助项目的有益补充。
