Global transcriptional regulators are prevalent in Gram-positive pathogens. The transcriptional regulators of the Mga/AtxA family can effectively regulate the expression of target genes by directly or indirectly binding to the regulatory region of target genes, resulting in the coordinated expression of virulence factors in the pathogenic process of pathogens. The spd_1587 gene of S. pneumoniae D39 encodes a protein called Mga-like that has sequence similarity to global transcriptional regulators of the Mga/AtxA family.
