Dataset of student survey responses on dropout factors in Information Systems courses

This dataset contains anonymized responses from an online survey conducted with undergraduate students enrolled in the Information Systems program at Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie. The objective of the survey was to investigate academic, socioeconomic, and institutional factors associated with student retention and dropout in higher education. The questionnaire collected information on students’ demographic characteristics (such as gender and age), employment status, main source of income, first-generation college student status, and strategies for balancing academic and personal life. In addition, the survey explored students’ motivations for choosing the Information Systems program, whether it was their first choice during the admission process, perceived academic difficulties (including specific subjects considered more challenging), expectations regarding the course, and perceptions of institutional support. The dataset also includes students’ evaluations of whether the program meets their expectations, their intention to continue until graduation, and open-ended suggestions on actions the university could take to support student permanence and reduce dropout rates. All personally identifiable information was removed prior to publication, and the data were fully anonymized in accordance with ethical research practices and data protection regulations. The dataset is intended to support academic research, educational analytics, and policy discussions related to student retention in Information Systems and similar computing-related programs.
