Adult Education Survey- Adult research into training (long, short and informal learning) (from 01-01-2011)

The aim of the study is to provide information on training participation by adults. This includes information on participation in a diverse spectrum of teaching and learning activities: from long, regular courses (e.g. HBO, university) to one-day courses and informal learning in the workplace. In addition, the questionnaire provides insight into experienced limitations when attending education. The study was conducted by telephone (Computer Assisted Telephone Interviewing, CATI). The full questionnaire of the pilot AES and the questionnaire of the first regular AES are available electronically. The weighting is designed as follows: The increase of the AES observations takes place in two steps. In the first step, starting weights are assigned to the observations. These starting weights are calculated in such a way that they correct for unequal draw odds resulting from the sampling used. In the second step, final elevation factors are determined. This step reduces distortion due to non-response. Data on gender, age, educational attainment, labour market position and employment are used. The edge totals are based on the EBB (Professional Population Survey). For the AES 2012, these are the EBB figures for the first quarter of 2012. ### Population Persons aged 25 to 65 in the Netherlands, with the exception of persons in establishments, institutions and homes (institutional population).
