Pyrolysis and EA- and LA-IRMS measurements of chemically treated pollen

The here deposited data represent the Py-GC-MS and EA/LA-IRMS measurements of chemically treated pollen and spores (sporomorphs). Six sporomorph species (Lolium perenne, Zea mays, Pinus echinata, Betula pendula, Eucalyptus globulus and Lycopodium clavatum) were treated with KOH/MeOH (saponification), acetolysis (acetic acid, acetic anhydride and sulfuric acid), and HF/HCl, in triplicate. The Py-GC-MS sheet shows the percentage of each pyrolysate found for each species/treatment combination. The stable carbon isotope (δ13C, ‰ versus VPDB) measurements were done using an Element Analyzer (EA) isotope ratio mass spectrometer (IRMS) (second sheet) and a laser ablation (LA) IRMS (third and fourth sheet). The LA-IRMS measurements are corrected using a polyethylene (PE) standard (IAEA-CH-7, δ13C -32.15‰) (third sheet), and some samples are additionally corrected using an in-house polylactic acid (PLA) standard (-12.63‰) (fourth sheet).
