We previously developed a subjective classification system of production potential (PP) for incoming feeder calves and demonstrated its ability to predict feedlot growth performance. In this report the potential of precision livestock feeding (PLF) according to PP classification was investigated by feeding low-, medium and high production diets to the different PP classes in 2 randomised experiments. We demonstrated that the additional growth efficiency of PP 1 calves can be unlocked, with the potential improved economic returns.
