GIS dataset of caves used by humans during the Pleistocene, with or without fires and black paintings

This repository contains a geospatial dataset related to the use of deep caves (beyond the threshold of solar lighting) by humans during the Pleistocene and early Holocene (based on a first database created by I. Intxaurbe (2026), as well as the presence or absence of fixed fires, and the use of black paintings to make rock art. This is provided as a set of GIS layers and an associated QGIS project. The dataset is intended to support archaeological research and cultural heritage studies, enabling spatial analysis, data integration, and reuse in academic contexts. This is the first version (v1.0) related to another publicly available and ongoing dataset (First Concept DOI -2025-: https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.17954082). The content will be periodically updated and expanded as new data become available and existing records are reviewed or refined. Users are therefore encouraged to cite the specific version of the dataset used in their work.
