The cartography included in this service contains information on the isolated populations in Spain, updated as of May 2018. Council Directive 1999/31/EC of 26 April 1999 on the landfill of waste defines ‘isolated population’ as the stock: • With a maximum of 500 inhabitants per municipality or population and a maximum of 5 inhabitants per square kilometre; and • With a distance to the nearest urban agglomeration of 250 inhabitants per square kilometre not less than 50 kilometers, or with a difficult road communication to these nearest agglomerations due to unfavourable weather conditions during a significant part of the year.
