Improving waste activated sludge methanogenic efficiency by pretreatment of PDS with Fe(II) /ZVI activation in cooperation with SRB

Improving the efficiency of anaerobic digestion by pretreatment is an effective means to treat waste activated sludge (WAS). In this study, we used Fe(II) and ZVI-activated peroxydisulfate (PDS) pretreatment to enhance the efficiency of sludge lysis cells, and a novel synergistic sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) fermentation system to investigate the effects of the Fe(II)/ZVI_PDS+SRB system on the short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) and methanogenic processes of sludge fermentation.
