Data from: Decoupled taxonomic diversity and morphological complexity during two Early Triassic extinctions

We investigated the evolutionary dynamics of ammonoids morphological complexity during the Early Triassic. Based on published literature and the best preserved specimens, we established a high-strata resolution dataset of ammonoid ornament complexity, measuring 613 specimens including 603 species from 272 genera. The results show that, although genus and species richness declined significantly in the late Smithian and late Spathian, ornamentation complexity did not decrease during these two crises.
