The ability to induce regeneration for the repair of damaged or diseased tissue is the ultimate goal of regenerative medicine and its attainment would beneficially impact virtually every branch of medicine. The spiny mouse (Acomys) is a mammal capable of perfectly regenerating large areas of skin, including hairs, sebaceous glands, skeletal muscle and cartilage without fibrosis or scarring. We have undertaken the complete genome sequence, assembly and annotation of Acomys carhirinus.
