The genome of Lantana camara is also not yet been sequenced and to date, no extensive research has been done in the area of genomics and transcriptomics for Lantana camara. Therefore, a comprehensive research strategy is needed to elucidate various aspects of genomics and transcriptomics of this important medicinal plant. Transcriptomics using next generations sequencing technology has proved to be a powerful and cost effective approach that generate a large amount of transcribed sequence data for a wide range of research applications (Wang Z et al 2009: Wang L, et al 2011).In the present study we established the first de novo transcriptome assembly using Lantana camara an important medicinal plant of the family Verbenaceae. Moreover, this transcriptome data is the first genomic resource for L.camara, from family Verbenaceae which will lays the foundation for further functional genomics study
