资源简介:
On behalf of the Virginia Department of Transportation and Fort A.P. Hill, Cultural Resource Analysts, Inc., conducted a Phase I archaeological survey and Phase II evaluation of Site 44CE0085 in Caroline County, Virginia, for the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) (UPC NO: CSC 1211001, code 5012680, VDHR File No. 2014-0492). The purpose of this project was to survey the mapped location of Site 44CE0085, also known as the Garrett Farm, and determine the potential for intact subsurface features and/or artifact deposits to aid in the evaluation of this site. The Garrett Farm site is the location of John Wilkes Booth’s capture and death in April 1865. The project area consists of a narrow survey corridor within the median of Route 301 and the adjacent shoulders within the VDOT easement some three miles south of Port Royal. The survey corridor is within Fort A.P. Hill and is approximately 76 m (250 ft) in width and measures some 305 m (1,000 ft) in length. The project area covers approximately 3.2 ha (7.9 acres).
