Last names of the baselstadt population

This dataset shows the resident population of the Canton of Basel-Stadt by surname. The data is updated annually. For multiple surnames, only the first one is taken into account, regardless of whether the surnames are associated with a hyphen or not. Surnames that appear less than four times are grouped under the heading ‘Other’. For methodological reasons, the 2011 figures published here differ from those in cantonal public statistics: In the latter, the population was determined by updating until 2011. Since 2012, it has been based directly on evaluations from the cantonal population register.
