INTEGRATING EASTERN MUSICAL CATHARSIS AND WESTERN MUSIC THERAPY IN AN EDUCATIONAL SETTING

Music is an effective pedagogical tool for emotional regulation, cognitive development, and moral education. This study comparatively examines Al-Farabi’s concept of musical catharsis and contemporary Western music therapy approaches, focusing on the educational integration of maqoms. Using a qualitative comparative methodology, Rast, Segah, Bayati, and Hijaz maqoms are linked to emotional activation, cognitive-ethical processing, and educational outcomes. The findings indicate that integrating Eastern cathartic principles with Western music therapy enhances learners’ emotional intelligence, communication skills, and overall well-being.
