Diet analysis of Iriomote cat and Crested Serpent Eagle on Iriomotejima Island, Okinwa

We compared the diet of two top predators, the Iriomote cat and Crested Serpent Eagle on Iriomotejima Island to investigate of their coexistence mechanism on a small island. We used DNA metabacording of their fecal samples as the method of diet analysis and utilized four primer sets as outlined below: COI#1, COI#2, Ecoprimer, and MtAnr. COI#1 and COI#2 are capable of amplifying partial COI genes in both invertebrates and vertebrates. Ecoprimer amplified the partial 12S rRNA gene in vertebrates, while MtAnr amplified the partial 16S rRNA gene in anurans.
