Analysis of 16S rRNA gene amplicons from nasal swabs of beef calves in Idaho: Comparative Study between Apparently Healthy and Calves Diagnosed with Bovine Respiratory Disease

The objective of this study is to assess the nasal microbiome of apparently healthy (n=51) and BRD-affected (n=57) pen-mate beef calves, with the aim of investigating its potential as an additional diagnostic tool for identifying BRD. Samples were collected from a farm in Idaho. The analysis of the nasal microbiome involved amplification and sequencing of the V4 region of the 16S rRNA gene using an Illumina MiSeq Sequencer.
