These are areas in the province of Overijssel which are sensitive to acidification. The data is used when delivering to the European INSPIRE Directive. The highly sensitive areas for ammonia have been designated on the basis of Article 2(1) of the Ammoniak and Livestock Farming Act (WAV). This law protects highly sensitive areas from ammonia emissions caused by livestock farms. Under this law, Provincial States have designated areas that are considered to be very vulnerable. In these areas and in a zone of 250 meters around this area, expansion or the new establishment of livestock farms is limited. When the law was introduced in 2002, the areas susceptible to acidification were used within the Provincial Ecological Main Structure (EHS). Following the legislative change in 2007, these areas were restricted to the very sensitive areas. The new WAV stipulates that provincial states of the provinces must designate the most vulnerable areas. The criteria used are set out in the explanatory memorandum to the PS Decision (2007/053405). The criteria relate to the size and ecological value of the area sensitive to ammonia. In a separate relational table, under the name wav_afweightingcrit, are the ecological research results that played a role in this assessment. An important criterion for these areas is that they are located within the Ecological connection zone. The re-limitation of the EHS on 3 July 2013 and the partial revision of 2 September 2013 have led to a change in the limits of the highly sensitive areas.
