Dataset on Pre-Service Teachers' Understanding of the Nature of Science through Authentic Scientific Contexts by PRISMA protocol

Data Availability for the Manuscript Submitted to Studies in Science EducationThis dataset is provided with the intention of sharing the information from the articles used in the development of the systematic review for the manuscript submitted to Studies in Science Education in May 2025, titled: Understanding the nature of science in pre-service teacher training through authentic scientific contexts: a systematic review. The aim of the study was to systematically analyze the literature on the use of authentic scientific contexts as a strategy to enhance understanding of the Nature of Science (NOS) in pre-service teacher education, using the PRISMA protocol. Inclusion criteria used for article search and selection: Document type: Peer-reviewed article Publication year: 2005–2025 Population: Pre-service teachers Language: English or Spanish Keywords: nature of science, authentic science, real science experience, preservice teachers, NOS understanding File contents:The attached file contains three sheets: “Article sample” – A table listing the sample of studies analyzed, organized by five criteria: article number, year of publication, authors, study title, and DOI. “Data systematization” – A table showing the authors’ agreed-upon classification of the articles according to analysis subcategories. Frequencies and resulting percentages are also included. “ENA preparation” – This sheet contains the binary-coded data for each article based on the analysis subcategories. These codings were used to prepare the dataset for processing through Epistemic Network Analysis (https://app.epistemicnetwork.org). Research context:Articles were systematically searched and selected in Web of Science, Scopus and Springer between January and March 2025, following the PRISMA protocol.
