An experiment was established in nine field open top chambers (OTCs) with non-filtered ambient air (NF), elevated O3 (ambient O3 + 40 ppb, NF40; ambient O3 + 60 ppb, NF60), respectively. Two cultivated poplar clones which were known as having different O3 sensitivities in nine were placed in OTCs with different O3 concentration and subsequently inoculated by Mlp uredinospores. The microbial communities in multiple compartment niches (phyllosphere, rhizosphere, root endosphere, and bulk soil) of diseased poplars were collectively assessed by amplicon sequencing of fungal ITS2 region and bacterial 16S rRNA gene.
