Between May 4 and 18, 2022 we distributed an online survey to a sample of adults aged 25 years and older who lived in the municipalities of Cadiz, Cordoba, Huelva, Malaga, and Seville (Fig. 1). Respondents were recruited across urban and rural areas in the region. The survey was part of a larger research effort assessing beliefs and behavior regarding extreme heat events during the months leading up to heat wave season. Sample was recruited from an online panel, and a total of 1,650 individuals were invited to participate and 1,051 participants completed the online survey (63.7% response rate). The final sample was closely matched to the population of the sampled municipalities in terms of gender and age, though older adults were slightly underrepresented (Supplemental materials, Table 1). The sample’s reported income was closely matched but, on average, slightly lower than the average monthly income of Andalusia.(12) In addition, the distribution of self-reported health status was closely matched to previous studies of Spanish adults.(13)
