This study used transcriptomic analysis to identify genes potentially involved in the catabolism of 2,3-dihydroxybenzoic acid (2,3-DHB) and catechol in Aspergillus niger. Genes upregulated with 2,3-DHB as the sole carbon source became candidates for further analysis to identify the genes involved in 2,3-DHB catabolism through the catechol branch of the beta-ketoadipate pathway.
