Copies of letters from Governor Fitzroy to William Gladstone (1846) and Earl Grey (1847-48). The despatches are concerned with such matters as acknowledging the receipt of instructions and letters from England; the appointment of officials for the new colony; arrangements for an examination of the coast; proposed Legislative Council for the colony; result of Captain Perry's and Lieutenant Colonel Barney's expeditions; arrangements to abandon the settlement; compensation to officials to cover financial losses and disappointment, and explaining why it had been thought that Port Curtis possessed an adequate water supply and the reasons for establishing the colony there.
