收藏资源简介:
Over the years the macro-electronics industry has improved in leaps and bounds following the growth of the micro- electronics industry. Micro-electronic technologies have been advancing due to miniaturization, leading to increased computing power and noticeable decrease in manufacturing cost. The most visible example for macro-electronics in the present day are the flat panel displays with have successfully replaced the olden day’s cathode ray tube displays and monitors in the display industries. Couple of outstanding features which allowed flat panel displays to overpower and surpass the cathode ray tubes are effective design and lower manufacturing cost. While the grand success of the flat panel displays in the market shines light on the large area electronics, other emerging applications such as thin film solar cells and electronic skins enables flexibility, portability and low manufacturing cost. Macro-electronics is a platform for many technologies. Consider for example all reading materials, which are printed in paper. Papers are created from trees; now assume a text book which consists of large information along with drawings and figurative descriptions. The printing cost and the paper utilization is quite large. Now the technologies of the present day have come up with a solution, E-books which can be downloaded into a memory and can be displayed on portable devices. Being aware of the advancement of technology, carrying around this rigid portable device will become cumbersome. Now let us think of an innovative flexible display which could be rolled and carried along, the entire information of a book made available in flexible, roll-able thin film of plastic. Our daily newspaper could also be read on this flexible wonder.
