Decree 2010-578 of 31 May 2010 amending Decree 2009-615 of 3 June 2009 establishes the roads classified as high traffic (RGC) in the department of Calvados. ‘High-traffic roads, irrespective of their State affiliation, are the roads which ensure the continuity of the main routes and, in particular, the offloading of traffic, the movement of exceptional transport, convoys and military transport and the economic service of the territory, and as such justify special rules concerning traffic police. The list of high-traffic roads is fixed by decree, after consulting the local authorities and the groups owning the lanes" (Article L. 110-3 of the Highway Code). Also, high-traffic roads (RGCs) are the national roads defined in Article L. 123-1 of the Road Road Code, the roads the list of which is annexed to the above-mentioned decree, the adjoining links between them either two sections of high-traffic roads or a section of high-traffic road and a motorway. **Collection Context** Since 2002, the Department of Calvados has operated a Geographic Information System (GIS) with a road component. All information relating to the management of the departmental public road domain is provided through the Department’s Geographical Road Information System (SIGR). The road graph is digitised from departmental orthophotos.
