Climate protection report 2009

In the 2009 climate protection report, the Federal Environment Agency analyses the sectoral emission trends up to 2007 and presents the targets of the European Union’s climate and energy package for 2020 for Austria. Analysis of emission scenarios shows that further measures in the area of energy efficiency and use of renewable energy sources will be necessary in order to achieve these targets. In 2007, Austria’s greenhouse gas emissions amounted to 88million. Tons. Taking into account the reductions from the use of flexible mechanisms and from reforesting and deforestation, there is a reduction requirement of approximately 8.1 million tonnes to achieve the Kyoto target. Compared to the sectoral objectives of the climate strategy, the transport and industry and manufacturing sectors showed the largest deviations, with space heating and small consumption below for the first time.
