This study aims to (i) investigate the combined effect of FNA and salinity on nitritation by comparing long-term performances under four conditions, i.e., FNA + salinity, FNA alone, salinity alone, and neither; and (ii) decipher mechanisms driving the differential evolution of AOB and NOB under the combined effects through batch experiments. This study is expected to contribute to the low-carbon transformation and sustainable development of wastewater treatment.
